Every impactful movement begins with a simple idea: change is possible.

Our story started in 2009

When a collaboration between Hivos and Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), supported by the Royal Netherlands Embassy, laid the foundation for what would become the Indonesia Domestic Biogas Programme (IDBP). At that time, the focus was clear — bringing clean, renewable energy into Indonesian households through biogas technology.

2012

Yayasan Rumah Energi (YRE) was appointed as the official implementer of IDBP. This marked a turning point. What began as an initiative evolved into a structured, scalable program that empowered rural families with access to sustainable energy while reducing reliance on fossil fuels and firewood.

2022

When Yayasan Rumah Energi became the Coordinating/Managing Entity (CME) of IDBP under the Gold Standard Registry Impact. This international recognition validated the integrity, transparency, and measurable carbon impact of the program.

2023

As required by Presidential Regulation 98/2021 of Carbon Economic Value, Yayasan Rumah Energi and other shareholder established PT. Biru Karbon Nusantara to continue implementation of IDBP. More than a new company, PT. BKN represents the next chapter of our journey — strengthening the commercial, carbon management, and strategic dimensions of the program. In the same year, PT. BKN assumed the role of CME for IDBP under the Gold Standard Registry Impact, continuing the mission with renewed focus and expanded capabilities.

Today

We fully manage IDBP and are evolving into a total solution company in the biogas industry.

But beyond milestones and recognitions, our mission remains unchanged: to transform waste into energy, carbon into opportunity, and sustainability into tangible impact for communities.
